This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching future leaders is a task that cannot be taken lightly. As a teacher, I have the opportunity to instill a positive outlook in life and model healthy emotions such as compassion, kindness, confidence and many other emotions. This magnificent set of books would help me provide these lessons through inspiring stories. Today's youth holds our futures in their hands as they will one day become our leaders and ensuring that they grow up being compassionate individuals is important.
My goal with this project is to help my students learn about compassion and to develop healthy identities to help achieve personal goals and help others.
These books would help my students learn to see the world through the eyes of other people as they will teach lessons about emotions and how to work through them. Kobi Yamada is a great author that writes books about giving people chances, believing in yourself and others, and embracing failure. All of which help develop a caring and compassionate individual. I've already read one of Kobi Yamada's books (What To Do With A Problem) to my students and I saw how they truly embraced the book's lesson (seeing problems as opportunities). They started sharing past experiences.
My students will help alleviate others suffering by being understanding and kind when their classmates/ school peers are feeling sad or upset. We will talk about how to help others when they are not feeling well. We will also be doing whole group activities such as writing something positive about every classmate and writing positive affirmations to inspire others.
I will measure my students success by providing scenarios and have classroom discussions on how to show compassion. Students will also share ideas with each other on how they would handle helping a friend in need.
