My students jumped with excitement as they saw me take out the class set of The Bell Bandit books. We are almost done with The One and Only Ivan novel. My students truly enjoy reading novels together. We read daily during the last 20 minutes of class. It warms my heart to see their eyes light up when its time to read. They are also loving The One and Only Ivan and were excited to see The One and Only Bob, The One and Only Ruby, and The One and Only Family at the campus book fair. Most chose to add them to their book fair wish list. As we read we practice skills by analying character traits, discussing problem/solution scenarios, predicting future events, and making inferences. I can't wait to start reading The Bell Bandit with my students. The grid paper booklets have been a great help with students as they align digits in their proper place value while adding and subtrating. The play doh was a hit! My students started learning about fractions and we used the play doh to create fraction models and sets. This was a fun hands on activity that help build a strong foundation on fractions. Each edition comes with quizzes that measure student comprehension. While we read these fun articles, we look for text features, problem/solution scenarios, and so much more! The Storyorks subscirtion is also a great tool to spark student interest and shapren their ltieracy. They also get to practice their skills in mutli genre aritcles. After reading the book we made our very own lemonade. Students were set up into three different groups as they made lemonade and added different fruits such as berries, pineapple, and peach. We also included sour worms to our recipes. My students were excited to read this book each and every single day. This project made reading fun and exciting for my students. My students also took an AR test which measured their reading comprehension by asking questions about the story.
