The energy was amazing!\r\n\r\nStudents eagerly searched for eggs and could not wait to open each one. Inside, they discovered task cards that challenged them to use context clues, make inferences, identify problem and solution, and analyze informational text structures. What made this activity so special was that they were practicing these important STAAR skills while having so much fun.\r\n\r\nThe best part was listening to their conversations. I heard students explaining their thinking, using academic vocabulary, and supporting each other. The accountable talk happening throughout the room was incredible. They were fully engaged, confident, and excited to learn.\r\n\r\nThe Easter-themed Smencils and headbands added an extra layer of joy. The RACE writing strategy teaches students to restate a question, answer the question, cite text evidence, and explain their thoughts. The materials from this project motivated my students to fully engage and understand each part of the strategy. My students enjoyed this project and they were able to \"lock in\" ( their favorite phrase that means to focus). I bought some short passages on the history of fast cars from teachers pay teachers and that is what my students used to work in their RACE strategy. The table covers, RACE banner, metallic pencils, and other racing decorations created a fun, energetic, and creative ambience that cultivated a great learning experience. The trophy cups were a hit! They were filled with racing fuel \"Hawaiian punch\" to stimulate their thinking. This fun project will be memorable and will help my students remember the process for this strategy while taking their STAAR assessment. Thank you for all that you do! The scent of sweet fruits and candies while working somehow makes them feel excited to keep working and learning. The scented stickers are also great for motivation during group lessons. Most sticker books have little space as they have been collecting sticker rewards throughout the year for iReady, Accelerated Reader, and class participation. The grid paper has been a great tool for their multiplication charts and math computations. My next steps for this project is to use the materials (sharpener, cardstock, pens, clipboards, and folders) throughout our daily learning routines.
