My Students

My school is located in the heart of the black belt. The school was created when multiple schools in our county were closed and merged as a result of financial decisions. My patrons come from incredibly diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds; however, the majority of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Despite some of my students' struggles, the beauty of this amazing group of kids is their desire to truly shape the school that they helped to create.

I hope to provide all of my students with the materials they need to overcome the many barriers created by living in the black belt and to give them an opportunity to become whatever they want to be when they grown up.

My Project

These books will enhance the HC Middle School Library where I strive to create a culture of reading. The library is a sanctuary that students really enjoy to experience. I am trying to help my students rekindle their love for reading. Every book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and students are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. These books will be utilized first as a read aloud and then be entered into the collection for students to check out.

With these new books, students will be provided with diverse ideas that are presented to them in an easier to read format.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading due to the engaging content of the books. This project will help enrich the students' experiences with the printed word.
