My Students

I teach at a small elementary school in San Francisco. My third grade students are creative, curious, and incredibly loving! I had the amazing opportunity of teaching most of these students last school year during the pandemic. And let me tell you, they truly showed up! Every morning I would be greeted on Zoom by so many shining faces ready to learn. My students had so many hurdles thrown at them such as being asked to LEARN while at home with younger siblings, televisions, phones, dogs, cats, you name it! And despite it all, they persevered and pushed themselves to be the best scholars they could be.

This school year, my hope is to bring a variety of rich, captivating books into my classroom in order to strengthen my students' reading skills and build an appreciation towards storytelling!

My Project

These books will help build our classroom library with stories and characters that will truly captivate my students. After nearly 2 school years of dealing with the Covid-19 Pandemic, none of my students are yet at the reading level in which they are "expected." This is due to a myriad of reasons but most of those reasons have to do with the sheer amount of time spent with access to quality books that genuinely excite students. In order to help my students read this year, I find it incredibly important to introduce my students to books that will help strengthen their reading skills and their adoration for reading!

With these new books, my students will be introduced to important topics including friendship, poverty, and differences in culture through interactive read alouds and they will able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
