Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Advanced Placement (AP) English Language and Composition students are a diverse and energetic group. They are excited to learn--as their boisterous discussions on books demonstrate--and they thrive on challenging themselves.
They come from all backgrounds--low-socioeconomic, English learners, multiple races, to name a few--but they all share a love for learning, shooting their hands into the air, ready to add to the classroom discussion.
My Project
In March, my students will be undertaking a unit entitled "The Status of the American Dream." They will read, watch, and discuss materials from many lens (education, economic, race, gender, etc.) to understand how the American Dream shapes lives in the modern era.
These books will allow them to continue their learning at home and within smaller reading groups in the classroom where they will be able to form their own opinions and discuss them with their peers.
They will then use their learning toward a full-class seminar discussion that will eventually evolve into a research paper.
