My Students

Third grade is a huge hurdle for elementary students. My classroom is a place of challenge and celebration. Throughout the year, my third graders make the amazing transformation from learning to read to reading to learn. Every year, they impress me with all the reading and writing skills they gain. There are sure to be bumps and wrong turns, but these mistakes help us to grow and learn.

We have a wide variety of abilities, personalities, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds, but these qualities make our classroom community an amazing place to learn and play.

My students, this year, are full of energy and excitement for learning and are ready to tackle third grade!

My Project

The resources in this project will inspire and engage my students by providing quality and purposeful mentor texts to build all aspects of their reading, writing and grammar abilities. The books have all been chosen for a specific purpose such as learning through images, or visualizing what the text says so that we can learn by the modeling of what great authors do.

Children love when stories are read aloud.

These mentor texts and coordinating lessons will provide ample opportunity for students to observe and mimic what authors do and build their own abilities as readers and writers. I always have more engagement and understanding when I start a lesson with a good book. The double power of these resources will explode learning in my classroom.
