My Project

My school is one of four middle schools in the largest school district in New Hampshire. My students come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds and many of my students are English language learners.

In our school and wider community, one pressing issue is the lack of awareness and understanding of social justice issues.

My students want to address this lack or awareness by adding new books to our school library so they may complete research projects.

Discrimination, inequality, and systemic injustices persist, yet many students may not fully comprehend the depth of these problems or know how to effectively address them. Therefore, my project aims to utilize literature as a tool to educate students about social justice issues and empower them to take action through research and advocacy.

Through literature and research, my project aims to educate students about social justice issues and empower them to become advocates for change in their school and community. By fostering empathy, critical thinking, and action-oriented skills, we can cultivate a generation of engaged citizens who are committed to promoting equality, justice, and human rights for all. Students will use these books to educate themselves on social justice issues and complete assignments for their core classes where they will need to become an advocate for change. They will present these projects to the community to help raise awareness and understanding of their selected social justice issue.
