Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love school, but don't always know how to interact with one another in a positive way.
My students are low-income English learners who enjoy school, but struggle with reading and math.
Most of my students are reading one to two years below grade level. Along with their academic needs, my students have great social needs. They come from a variety of family situations, but some of them don't have good models of healthy relationships at home.
My Project
I am asking for a variety of books that teach about developing character. There are a variety of books from topics such as bullying, making friends, how to check yourself before blurting out, to how to work together as a team. Each book focuses on a character who needs a little extra help. Through these read alouds, my students will engage in activities that build relationships with their classmates and establish a safe environment to learn and grow as a child.
My classroom is a conglomeration of 25 individuals that come together daily to learn about reading, math, social studies, and science.
Often, we need to take time to learn how to learn with one another. This project will help my students reflect on their behavior and break down barriers that keep them from learning.
