Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think," ~Albert Einstein once said and I agree.

I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of learners including primary grade levels.

Our classroom environment is warm, welcoming, and very student-friendly. My students are an amazing group of individuals with various abilities. At the beginning of each school day my students walk in, get their supplies, sit down, and are ready to learn. My students attend an elementary school where close to 70% of our students are English Language Learners (ELL) and 90% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

My project was inspired by Mr. McBride's project, "Language Arts and Robots." I envision my students becoming directors and using Ozobots as the characters of the stories we will be focusing on. They will have opportunities to create dramatic representations of stories we read. We will make a simple script and then illustrate a stage, where the Ozobots will be performing. My students will draw and add codes to the Ozobot track that crosses their stage. Several robots will interact with each other and then act out scenes from the story, making this a play to remember.

I believe reading high quality literature picture books will help my students enhance their reading skills.

It will help my students become more interested in reading when they can make a connection to a story. This collection of picture books will help my students become caring, considerate, confident citizens of the world. These books will help my students think deeply about feelings and social issues. It will also help them develop empathy, talk about their feelings, and identify with others. These books will lend themselves to certain conversations with my students. They will talk with one another about what they think the main point of the story was and the character trait the story defines, and they will make a connection to the story from their own life.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
