Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever been bullied? Students face many challenges at home and at school, being bullied is one of them.
I teach 20 eager second graders.
My class is 80% English language learners. Our school is in a title 1 district where all students receive free breakfast and lunch. We do not have the opportunity to purchase the materials that excite our students due to the lack of budget.
My Project
The books I am requesting, Recess Queen, Jungle Bullies, and The Tale of Sir Dragon, will help introduce the important topic of bullying in a way that interests young children, through colorful and fun literature. It is very important that children learn at a young age how to develop ones social and communication skills. My students will also be introduced to books like Black, White, Just Right, Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon, and Freckleface Strawberry, that show diversity. My students will know that everyone is different and we all have feelings.
Bullying continues to be an issue at school for children.
By having several books that cover this topic, bullying will continually be a part of our classroom discussions. Reading stories and having discussions about bullying will help my students understand how they need to handle their emotions and actions, as well as, how to communicate.
