My students need 43 classic favorite books to begin a collection in our empty library.

My Students

Have you ever been into a library that doesn't have any books to read-aloud? Well my new kindergarten class library is empty besides a few old over-used books from the 80's, and the ones I have bought myself.

My about-to-be kindergarten students are going through a big transition right now.

Their teacher left, and they currently have a sub in their room until I start on Thursday. I'm really excited to teach such a wonderful group of inner-city kids who are eager to learn. However we do not have the necessary resources and materials to do so. Books being one of the most important tools to help kids learn.

My Project

It is my goal to provide my students with experiences of the joy of reading. I want to read aloud to my students some of the classic favorites by Leo Leoni, Aliki and Nancy Carlson for them to enjoy and complete fun activities and projects after reading related to the books. For example, Nancy Carlson wrote a book ABC I LIKE ME and I LIKE ME which celebrates the unique characteristics of different people. I would like to do projects that allows the students to write about how they are special. And also with practice, be able to read them independently! Another book I would like to share with my students is Let's Take Care of the Earth to raise awareness in what we can do to help save the world. The healthy fruits and vegetables and yoga book can be introduced to get my students off to a healthy start! I have plenty of creative activities to go with the other books for the students to engage in after reading.

Providing our class with these books will benefit the learning of my students in so many ways.

We will learn new vocabulary, sight words, story plot, and comprehension skills which are vital in kindergarten for the foundation of future learning. Without these books it will be very difficult for me to teach my students key issues that can change their lives forever. These books will open a whole new world of literacy in our classroom. You can be a part of this. Thank you!
