We are a Title I school with 100% free and reduced-priced lunch. Our students are darlings, that have so much they want to learn. One of the initiatives we are working on this year is getting a diverse set of books within our library so that our students have stories about children that are just like them.
We are trying to buy books that our students are able to relate to.
These books may have characters or problems that our students can relate to, and using those stories to unlock engagement and connections within stories. We want to increase students enjoyment of reading, as well as create talks and dialogue that promote further understanding of subject material and understanding of the world we live in.
Our students are struggling readers that deserve the opportunity to read books that have characters with struggles, and joys that are similar to them. By funding this project, my students will be able to read books that they can relate to!
All the students in our school have a chance to visit the "Book Nook" in the morning and check out books.
By funding this project, my students will be able to check out books that they can relate to and use those stories to unlock engagement and enjoyment of reading.
Thank you so much for looking at this project and considering helping us!
