Books Increase Self Confidence! And Foster Community Involvement
Help me give my students books and hands-on materials related to the books to help students demonstrate their new skills and help younger children to read after school.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many children in the community go to an after-school program. What a perfect place for my children to read books to other children! The children are so excited when they can read a book! Help the children at the after school program get books that help them work on their reading skills, so that they can practice. This will help children who may not read at their grade level, however can instead to younger children and be successful at speaking and reading. These activities and skills help children gain the skills they need and gain confidence in their speaking and reading abilities while helping other children at the after school program. These activities also demonstrate to the younger children that with practice they can do the same thing when they get older. Puppets and other hands on materials also help the children to retell the story and increase interest in the books/reading outside of school.
The best way to increase confidence in children is to practice books until they can read them successfully and then allow them to read with other children who may or may not have speech/reading difficulties.
Pattern books and hands on materials like puppets help the younger children to retell the story they have heard. This activity also allows students to learn after school in the community and encourages younger children to practice reading skills. Fostering reading outside of the school helps to educate the entire community.
