This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are amazing, fun, creative, and talented. I teach general music to approximately 3 classes of each grade, PreK through 5th grade. It is a Title One school in Columbia, SC that serves approximately 500 students. We are an AVID school where students come ready to learn, R.O.C.K, and soar!

Like all students, they need engaging lessons and in music, the more hands-on the better!

We sing, dance, move and play every day! Every day they inspire me to help them achieve their very best!

My Project

Being a great reader is the key to success in school. Every class, even music class, should have a library of great books. In music class, we can use books in so many different ways. Sometimes we sing songs that have been turned into a storybook. Sometimes we use books to learn about famous musicians. Sometimes we use books to learn about instruments. Sometimes we use books to learn about concepts like high and low and fast and slow. Sometimes we add instruments to books.

The books will help bring these songs and concepts to life for students in my class.
