This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school. Many students are from low-income families, but that does not prevent them from being lively and smart. This upcoming school year I will be moving to teach kindergarten. I am the first person to introduce to my new students the importance of reading.
My goal is to assist my students in gaining a love for reading so that they may be successful.
It is my job to show them that reading cannot only be fun but it can take them places they may never be able to physically go.
With moving from 2nd grade to kindergarten my class needs to accumulate books for a well-stocked library, on their level. Instilling a love of reading from day 1 with my kindergartners is very important. Not only will they need level appropriate books but also diverse books. I want my students to see themselves and be able to relate to the characters they are reading and hearing about. I need your assistance to help give my students the books they can enjoy.
My Project
The items being provided will give my students a better chance at reading. The book display will allow students to be able to see the books at an eye level and pick the one that is most interesting to them. The books will enhance the reading culture I am trying to create inside of our classroom. Students will be involved in what is called the “Picture book a day” challenge inside of our classroom, so that they have exposure to a variety of books.
These books will help my students grow to become independent readers because these are books on their reading level.
The best way for my students to increase their reading ability is to read more. I am more than positive that these books will allow my students to grow stronger in reading.
