Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our class is filled with fifth graders who are eager to learn daily! While growing up in the inner city has its challenges, our fifth graders push through their adversity as they engage in literacy, and explore science and math. Their desire to become more and surpass their circumstances makes teaching exciting!

As a product of this very district, investing into my students is investing into the community that gave me an opportunity.

These children are just as capable as their counterparts in other district. They just need the same access to a plethora of resources to help level the playing field.

My Project

This year I have decided to be more effective with teaching reading. After reading and researching, I realized that I needed to improve the quality of text within our classroom library. Students need independent reading books at their current reading levels in order to practice reading strategies that are taught in class.

Building our classroom library will expose students to a variety of genres with accessible text.

These books will provide students with authentic opportunities to practice literacy strategies and improve their reading skills. This project will enhance the quality of text in our classroom. The Jennifer Serravallo book set, will allow me to model reading strategies with mentor texts.
