This year I have decided to be more effective with teaching reading. After reading and researching, I realized that I needed to improve the quality of text within our classroom library. Students need independent reading books at their current reading levels in order to practice reading strategies that are taught in class. Building our classroom library will expose students to a variety of genres with accessible text. These books will provide students with authentic opportunities to practice literacy strategies and improve their reading skills. This project will enhance the quality of text in our classroom. The Jennifer Serravallo book set, will allow me to model reading strategies with mentor texts.
