My Students
My students are all high school language learners focusing on English language skills in my classroom. Many of my students are refugees and recent immigrants adjusting to life and schooling in the United States. Students are motivated to succeed and value the diversity in our school.
I teach students throughout the day from over 20 different home countries. The mix of different languages and cultures provides a unique learning environment for students to explore cultural identity and the transition into American schools.
Our neighborhood school is devoted to making all students feel welcome. When asked, students agree that the diverse environment is what they value most in our school.
My Project
This project helps us grow our classroom library. Students in my classes are learning English and need books that are of interest to teenagers but written at a beginning reading level.
This project includes books our language learners have requested by authors they are learning about and enjoy. Many books in our project are specifically designed by publishers for high school students at low reading levels. Our language learners will benefit from this project because it will provide them choice in reading independently. We hope to continue to foster this desire to read and learn by continuing to grow our library.
