My Students

My students are hungry to learn. They are media consumers, who are full of wonder (and questions!) about the world around them. They are generally from a tiny town but have minds ready to explore the larger world.

These students, for the most part, have not been exposed to much of the diversity that exists in our world.

However, their curiosity and open-mindedness make me believe that they are ready and willing to become the best, most inclusive, citizens they can be.

My Project

Books create an opportunity for students in less diverse areas to learn about their incredible world. My students often have little exposure to non-white people, or to people whose sexual preferences and gender identities fall outside of the cisgender, heteronormative business as usual.

There is a beautiful, colorful world out there for them to discover.

As our library becomes more diverse, their expectations of themselves and others will evolve and develop. My students are hungry to learn more, and I want to give them the necessary tools to become equity-promoting, informed citizens!
