My students need quality, relevant, multilingual rich books. The books in this cart like Julian is a Mermaid or Dreamers make connections with those of our students that are most vulnerable.
I teach in a dual language program located in a Title 1 community, with very diverse learners. Our students, like many others, face challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Some of their life challenges can not be helped, but the lack of materials and resources is the biggest obstacle we can control today.
My students are brilliant with bright futures ahead of them, about 50% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunches.
We house a special needs program about 15% of our student population that is intentionally mixed into all classrooms so all students can learn side by side. They come to school ready to learn and put forward their best efforts every day. They are multicultural, multilingual l kids with lots of heart.
These 500 plus students have 15, loving and hardworking teachers that are ready to take them to the next level. They will rise to the occasion and surely surpass our expectations this upcoming year, we just need some resources to help us get there!
My Project
This project is very important to me and about five-hundred K-5th grade multilingual, multicultural and brilliant students. I am a ELL facilitator and bilingual coach in my building and we are very much in need of quality and relevant books. It is my job to help other educators reach out to those students who are most in need and impacted.
All of these quality books will find homes in different classrooms in a exceptional dual language building with exceptional students (K-5th).
When our students see themselves reflected in these books the positive impact is almost immeasurable. Having quality roles models to read about creates positive ripples in schools and communities.
