This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These books will reduce the fear of independent reading in my classroom by providing emergent bilingual students with an opportunity to engage with a text that is familiar to them. The selected material fosters student willingness to read and infer relevant text on their own. My goal for this project is for students to read independently and relate their understandings in English through extended prompts that connect to their choice of reading.
The majority of my students arrive from Latin American countries and deserve to understand books in their native language.
Providing scholars with text in Spanish allows their intrinsic motivation to bridge language barriers authentically. My ESOL class promotes leading through reading.
