These books will allow my students to learn who they are and connect to their roots. Most students detest reading because they cannot relate to what they're reading, so giving them the opportunity to choose a book that hits close to home will allow them to bridge a connection between their life and the book. When students have access to materials that give them the opportunity learn about their cultural and about the cultural of their classmates judgements seem to fade. It's important to me that my students empathize, understand, and connect with who they are and with who their peers are.
