Help me give my students a selection of the book to represent the diverse population at our school.
My students have been working hard with me this year. They enter the room every day willing to work.
Located in South Carolina, our small school district is home to students PreK-12th grade.
Our school is 100% free lunch and breakfast, and many of my students receive food bags on the weekends. They have lived through a lot in their lives; hunger, poverty, illnesses.
I would like to build the selection of books available to students in our classroom library to represent the diverse population at our school.
This project is for my students to have books highlighting characters that are from diverse ethnic backgrounds and diverse communities facing challenges.
I want to provide my student readers multiple access points to find themselves in the books available to them within our own classroom, and books that are windows for them to see what it is like to be from a different background. My hope is that this project will facilitate information and help students to be more empathetic towards those in our community and continue student interest in reading.
