My Students

We are a first grade co-teach classroom in an economically disadvantaged school. We have a very diverse group of kids in our classroom. We have a mixture of general education, special education, and low income students.

Our kids are very kind and accepting of our class's many differences.

They do not judge based on disability or economic status. They are great at sharing their experiences and creations with other students and their families. They are always excited to work with partners, groups, and the teacher!

My Project

My classroom is full of students who struggle with reading. I read with students in small group daily, though some of them never move past the 1st grade entry reading level.

We do not have a big variety of books to choose from, on this level.

Our system is set up for students to read on a level and then move up. Therefore, in a class like mine the students that struggle will be left reading the same books on a rotating schedule throughout the year.

I would like to have a collection of books available, so that I am able to expose them to new adventures each day! This project will be the first of many created to support my guided reading library!
