My Project

I teach instrument lessons at three small schools in rural Maine. My students show enthusiasm for learning instruments, but materials are difficult to come by in this low-income area. My schools have some loaner instruments but not enough method books to go home with every student.

It would help their progress greatly if everyone had their own method book to take home and practice from.

I've used photocopies and printouts from the internet, but students are so much more motivated and feel "official" by having their own book to practice from. Reaching the end of the book and getting a certificate gives kids a sense of accomplishment. The books could be reused year after year, so if my project is funded it has the potential to reach hundreds of students.
