Books for Baggies

Help me give my students decodable books that they can take home to practice the skills they have been learning at school.

My Project

My students are struggling readers in a small, rural community. Close to 50 percent of the children in our school are from low-income families. Students at our school are taught phonics skills in a systematic, explicit way, using the principles of the Science of Reading.

Beginning readers learn best when given decodable books (books with words the students can sound out).

Students in 1st-3rd grades are able to borrow "Baggy Books" to read at home. We are trying to build a reading library with many decodable books to lend to the students to give them more opportunities to use the phonics knowledge they are gaining at school.

The funding we are requesting would go toward purchasing licenses for printable resources from Teachers pay Teachers. These books will help build the confidence of the students and help make them more successful readers.
