My students are diverse, smart and love hands-on learning opportunities. They absolutely love engaging projects and challenges that allow them use the skills that they are learning to create. They come to school differently this fall but I still want to be able to offer them learning in a new and innovative way. Something that they will leave the class that day saying, "THAT was fun!"
Our school district is in a large city and I am currently serving students in 6 very different socio-economic schools.
Each child in my classroom is here to learn, but there are many supports and intervention tools that I need to individually incorporate. I offer a variety of learning strategies, group collaboration, and communication, as well as ensuring that each student's needs are met, right where they are!
I truly am blessed to be a part of the family here at our school and have faith that keeping things 'fresh' and challenging for the students will continue to keep them engaged, hopeful and could change the course of their education and life.
My Project
I would like to gift my students a book to use for practicing their reading and building their reading skills. I would consider using this as a group reading project.
Even though we are 'virtual' homeschoolers, we still meet 3x's a week on Google Meeting.
We are still building relationships. I want my students to know that there are friends out there and a teacher that cares. I try to bring the kids together to create a different type of social environment. Having an extra meeting for a 'book club' would be cool.
Overall, I would just love to gift them with something this year. A wrapped surprise. Mail for them. To show them I care, they are not alone and I support their education....even if it is on the other side of the computer screen. I do not get an 'allowance' to spend on my children this year because I am a virtual teacher. So, normally, I would host holiday parties, buy birthday gifts and of course Christmas gifts...this year, I am not given the additional funds to do so.
