My students need 18 high-interest book titles, including nonfiction books, poetry books, and some fiction books in our classroom to help create interest in reading.

My Students

It is recommended that there are at least 500 books accessible to children in every classroom. My classroom has a couple hundred that I've gotten at garage sales, Goodwill, from piles of discarded books, and donations. It would be great to have more shiny new books for my children to choose from!

My 5th grade resource students enjoy checking out books from my classroom.

This is their chance to get into reading, get hooked on a series or topic, and start improving their reading. The more students read, the better they get and their confidence goes way up. I'm inspired by a student I had last year who got hooked on the right books and increased his reading by two grade levels.

My Project

I'm requesting a variety of books to help me continue my goal of reaching 500 books in my classroom. There are many different interests among my students, and I'm trying to reach everyone by requesting many different kinds of books. Some of the books include: fishing books, books about the planet Earth, easy readers, sports books, the 2011 National Geographic Kids Almanac, some poetry books, and some American Girl books.

This project is really important to me because I'm all about inspiring my students to read.

The more books I have in my classroom, the more likely that is to happen. The more inspired they are to read, the better readers they become! Thanks so much for your generosity in advance!
