My students need rich literature and choice when selecting books in my classroom in order for them to continue to build reading skills and most importantly, a LOVE for reading!
I often have students come to my learning center so they can select a book so their peers cannot see which "leveled" bin it was from. My students struggle to read as most have reading disabilities. They work so hard and are often looking for great books, at their level, to bring home to practice and read to their families. These students never give up and always persevere to improve on their decoding skills, fluency skills and comprehension and their reading comprehension skills.
These students need rich literature and choice to succeed!
Providing these students with choice and rich literature will build vocabulary skills, respond to a students' interests and build reading comprehension skills that they will be able to embrace for their entire lives!
My Project
These materials will allow my students to have an updated library that would allow for varied book titles and allow for student choice and a selection that will engage, motivate and pique the interest of all my students. I want my students to read for pleasure not because they "have to". I want to provide new books to my students to continue to build reading and comprehension skills and what better way to continue to excite students than to get some new books for the classroom.
Receiving new books in a classroom is as exciting as waking up on Christmas morning.
The excitement for the students and teachers alike instantly connects them and engages students to want to be the first to read the new books. Its a win win situation!
