This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach reading in small groups to children who are not meeting their benchmark reading level. Although they are at least a grade behind where they should be, they are still enthusiastic eager students who want more than anything to be able to read. They are so excited when they come across a book they are able to read. I am so proud of how far they get each year. It is as though I have a lot of little seeds that I plant with knowledge in September and throughout the year I sprinkle them with nourishment of good books for them to finally blossom.

My Project

I am requesting 2 different books for my Parent Child Book Club. This is the first year my school is doing a book club during Parent engagement time. The students are very excited to come and read these stories and discuss the books with their parents. Many of the students and parents speak Spanish which is why I am asking for 10 copies of the book in English and another 10 in Spanish. I have selected A Chair For My Mother and Caps For Sale as the 2 books for right now. I remember Caps For Sale being a favorite book of mine growing up.
