Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher in a high-need area of New York City. This is my ninth year teaching in a newly formed elementary school that focuses on creating leaders in the community. I have 12 students in a self-contained classroom.
Most of my students receive free lunch.
My special education and ESL students need these supplies and resources to prepare them for learning in the classroom. My students want to succeed, but they require more resources and materials in order to be successful.
My Project
My students with disabilities need a variety of fiction and nonfiction books to add to our classroom library. These new books will be in essential part of their success in reading and writing! The level E fiction and nonfiction books will be added to our classroom library to support my students during independent reading. They will provide by students with new vocabulary and information that they will use throughout the year. The nonfiction books that focus on animals and habitats will be used during our project-based learning unit where our students write informational reports about an animal as well as create a diorama of an habitat in small groups. My students will use these nonfiction books to research their animal and gather as much information as they can about their topic. Thank you for your consideration and generosity toward my students!
