Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or the same way."-- George Evans
My students have not been exposed to a variety of books in the classroom. Part of this problem is the fact that we have a very limited Spanish classroom library.
I am a Bilingual Special Education teacher at a Title I school in Texas.
The students I work with are Spanish speaking, At-Risk students with specific educational needs. They are in 2nd and 3rd grade and they both enjoy spending time in my classroom library. They are both very hard working students who have a drive to learn.
My Project
Having these book along with the Read-Along option would allow my students to be more successful in reading. Most times my students have difficulty retaining information they have read. Being able to listen to a story and follow along would open new comprehension possibilities for them. Having this option would highly motivate students to spend more time reading in class and FEEL successful at it. They will also have access to a lot more books that are on their level, once again, making them successful in reading.
Being a Title 1 school, many times our families do not have the needed resources to support education at home.
They lack things anywhere from writing utensils to an appropriate book to read. Having these added books to my classroom library will provide my students with the much needed exposure to books. They are young enough to still have a love for reading. I will make sure to do whatever I can to keep that desire to read alive in them and have them feel successful while doing it.
