I would like the opportunity for my students to be able to engage in books that represent their lives, histories, and cultures.
My goal is that students see themselves in the books they read.
Diverse books give students the opportunity to read about lives different than theirs and also books they can relate to. I would like my students to be able to learn from the individuals of our history both in their Native American culture as well as others of historical importance.
I am requesting books featuring people of different races, identities, heritages, and beliefs. I am also requesting clear bins to use when we re-organize the books. My hope is that my students can see themselves in these books to affirm their own identity.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
