This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As the Mixed Art teacher for my school, I serve roughly 450 Kindergarten - 4th Grade students per year. Every student has their own story and I see that every day when I interact with them. My personal goal this year is to expose all of them to as many forms of art as I can. They love to learn new ways of doing things and thoroughly enjoy showcasing their creativity.
A part of our mission states that "we empower scholars to think critically, assume social responsibility and serve as advocates for themselves and the community".
Each and every student that I work with shows me daily how they advocate for not only themselves, but how they advocate for each other as well.
My students are not only striving to be the best version of themselves; they are striving to inspire the generation after them.
My Project
My students love to read but our school does not have enough books for each of them to read. Although I teach art, I also work with reading small groups. I would love to be able to provide books for my small groups and regular class students to check out and take home.
Your donation will help my students grow their love for learning and reading, whether they are in Kindergarten or Fourth grade!
I personally picked books that will be appropriate for every level of readers in my school.
More than half of students from low‑income households
