My Students

My wonderful students are working to become completely bilingual and bi-literate individuals through a dual language program. By the end of the year, I want them to have made progress and have advanced in their literacy both in English and Spanish. In order to make this a reality, they need to have access to a variety of texts in both languages.

My students are wonderful and intelligent second language learners as they have been a part of a dual language classroom since the beginning of kindergarten.

All of my students are working to increase their literacy skills in their first and second languages regardless of their varying levels. As fourth graders they will receive literacy instruction completely in Spanish and then also learn other content areas in English. They have many different resources culturally and linguistically within their reach.

My Project

These books would go into our classroom library. The students would be able to read them during free time and during our Daily 5 rotations. Additionally they would be able to check them out of the library and take them home to read, which allows them to have Spanish and English books to read outside of school. These books will be a great and accessible resource that will help with literacy and biliteracy. It will also help improve my classroom, as a first year teacher, I have not had the resources to increase the Spanish section and Culturally relevant texts of my library. Your donations will better help me to meet the needs of each of my students. Thank you for your time and consideration in this project!
