Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a Title 1 School with 96% free or reduced lunch. Our students are bright and have a love of learning. They love visiting their classroom libraries in search of great titles and enjoy relaxing with a good book.

These students may not have libraries at home, but they love reading nonetheless.

We definitely competition for popular titles during Silent Reading! Graphic novels, chapter books, and contemporary picture books are all very popular. I am excited to help supply students with books we can read and enjoy together as they practice fluency, prosody and comprehension.

My Project

We aim to create a reading rich environment where all students have books they want to read in their hands. Unfortunately many of our books are outdated, and don't hold interest for our students.

My project will get contemporary books with high interest titles into the hands of our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.

I'm requesting Classroom Library Must-Haves: Grade 4 and Grade 2 book sets.

We all know that reading a book you want to read makes reading a pleasure, not a pain. This project will do just that. Students are craving fun chapter books, graphic novels and diverse books that reflect their own cultures. I am ordering sets of books so that we can read them together in book groups, and then students can continue to enjoy them during silent reading.
