My Students
I am a first year 2nd grade teacher at a Title I school in Oakland where over eighty percent of our student population receives free school lunch. Many of my students are in crisis situations at home, and school is a safe, comforting place for them.
I am committed to helping my students fall in love with learning by providing them with experiences that open their minds and spark their creativity and curiosity.
The students at my school are a bright, creative, and empathetic; it's an honor to be their teacher and watch them grow.
My Project
My students LOVE to read! They love chapter books, graphic novels, and engaging picture books with characters that they can connect with. Unfortunately, space is limited in our classroom and it's a challenge for students to keep the books they are reading organized. My students' abilities vary from reading multiple levels above grade level to multiple levels below grade level. Staying organized will help me help them pick books that are just challenging enough to keep them growing without being so difficult that they want to give up.
These products will help my students pick books that are just right for them and keep them organized so they can keep going back to books they are working on and discover new favorites.
I included many new books that are of high interest to the students in my class, featuring diverse characters and stories that can be mirrors that reflect their own experience and windows into the experiences of others. I've also added also two inference games which will help my students learn better reading comprehension skills as they enjoy their books.
