My Project
This project is requesting books and materials for our Battle of the Books competition. Each year, students compete in a Battle of the Books competition for our district. Students read books, and then they compete by answering questions about the books they read. This project will purchase several titles that we are missing from our library for the competition, questions and study materials for all of the Battle of the Books novels, and a class set of "Shouting at the Rain" for teachers to share with their classes.
Our students love to read, and this project will provide new books for our students to read and enjoy.
The class set of Shouting at the Rain will expose more students to quality literature and the Battle of the Books experience. Our fourth and fifth grade ELA classes will read these books together as a shared read. In addition, our library is currently missing several titles from the Battle of the books list. This project will purchase copies of Shine On, Luz Veliz; Hello, Universe; Yusuf Azeem is not a Hero;Chester Keene Cracks the Code; From the Desk of Zoe Washington; The Lost Library; and Nic Blake and the Remarkables: The Manifestor Prophecy. Not only will these books be used by our 4th and 5th graders participating in Battle of the Books, but it will also add some much needed diverse reads to our library and better reflect our student population. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will be used to purchase study materials and questions so students can review their books before the competition. These books and materials are a vital part of our school library's mission to provide our students with a diverse and challenging literature.
