This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a sixth-grade teacher who works in a district where school supplies for the classroom are in high demand, but seldom available due to lack of funding. The district I work in is an inner-city district with almost all of my students coming from low-income families. In addition, half of the students in my class come from a non-English speaking home. As a great deal of my students don't speak English in their homes they need as much exposure to English as possible. Another obstacle is that many of my students do not have books available to them to read at home. I am trying to get my students to read as much as possible in order to improve on their fluency and comprehension. My hope is to build up my classroom library, so that I have a wide variety of reading material available to the kids. Please help me supply my students with an abundance of books!!!

My Project

These books will allow my students to have a wide variety of books to select from in order to fulfill the thirty minutes of reading they need to do daily for their homework. Many of my students do not have books at home, so I need a large selection in order to accommodate my class. The variety of books provides almost all of my students with either a genre or author they like. In addition, I also need to take in consideration that I have readers at many different levels and I need to provide for each and every one of them as well.
