Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a diverse TK-8 Spanish/English dual-language school. We strive to engage students in active, meaningful, challenging, public and collaborative learning. My classroom is a lively space where students share ideas, tell stories and engage in rigorous academic conversations.

My third graders are eager learners who are excited and curious about the world around them.

Approximately 40% of the students at my school are English learners, including a growing number of newcomers to the country. Sixty percent qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Limited school funding prevents my students from having all the tools they need to be successful scholars. I want my students to have access to materials that will allow them to achieve their goals and feel confident in their learning.

My Project

We are a little more than half way through our school year and my students have been working hard at reaching their goals and reading everyday. I want to provide my students with all the materials they need to succeed.

We are in need of more books at different levels for our classroom.

Many of my students are interested in graphic novels, chapter books, and fictional books. At this point in the school year I would like to add new books to our library. I know the students will delve right into them! With your support, I plan to provide many more books for my students at their level so that they can take home and read in class during independent reading time.
