My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My fifth graders this year are learning to be leaders in the school and community! I teach at a Title I school in North Carolina where most of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We have some that are homeless or have little parent support. As their teacher, I try to do all that I can to support them and let them know that I care.
We need support in all things that we do in order to help move and guide our students to the paths of excellence!
My Project
Providing my students with books that will be able to challenge them as well as secure a love of reading is a teachers dream! These books will help students engage in books that they would not necessarily come across and expose them to different types of literature, authors, and genres. This will, in turn, broaden their reading horizons as well as spark a love for reading.
The students I serve loathe reading and I have found the best way to get them to begin to love reading is through literature circles.
Reading the same book, talking and sharing help increase students reading growth.
