My students need books on CD accompanied with multiple paper copies to listen and follow along, such as "Maniac Magee," "The Lightning Thief," and "Hoot."

My Students

When children listen to stories, they retain more information than when they just read a story by themselves.

My fifth grade students live in a city that was recently devastated by an EF5 tornado.

The neighborhood surrounding our school was one of the most heavily impacted areas of the city, and many of my students have been displaced. Many are living in temporary housing or with relatives.

My Project

A good collection of books on CD with multiple copies of each book will bring reading to life for every student in my class. Many people believe that once children learn how to read, they do not have to be read to anymore. Reading aloud to children of any age encourages them to read for enjoyment, increase their fluency, accuracy, and intonation, and increases their comprehension skills. Having ample audio books in our classroom will allow students to continue to enjoy read alouds. Our daily schedule does not allow time for a teacher read-aloud, so I plan to include books on CD during our daily reading rotations.

There are so many wonderful stories that my students have not yet been exposed to.

I have selected a wide variety of books on CD and paperback books to allow my students to listen and track along with the story. Using these materials will greatly increase my students' reading abilities! Thank you!
