My Students

Our school is a K-5 school with over 5 classes per grade level. The heart of our school is the media center and its books. Our students love to read, and have a variety of reading levels, interest topics, and academic needs, but books are a connection for all students

We are excited to make our Community Reading Day a great day of learning and connecting.

My Project

As a member of our school's Community Reading Day committee I am working with other teachers and our media specialist to make Community Reading Day a memorable and important day for students. Each student will listen to a member of the community read the book "Brave", then each class will read aloud a special picture book biography that will highlight characteristics of good citizenship, especially bravery.

Biographies are stories that can teach, inspire, motivate, and educate.

The teacher and the community reader will lead the class in activities and discussions about the biography that they chose to read. Students in the school will be comparing and contrasting the different people they read about during Community Reading Day.

Thank you for considering helping us to get these biographies for our classrooms in order to help our students learn about positive character traits, and how to be "Brave.”
