Over the past couple months, my third graders received Scholastic News' issue each week. The articles and topics of issues have often been timely and directly correlating with events and topics we were already covering in class. My students not only enjoy the mainn article which is always on a topic of my students' interest, but also on the subsequent smaller article and opinion focus. (Again always on a relatable topic). Our favorite was the debate about whether school should allow metal water bottles. (A topic we talked about often in our class !) \r\n\r\nNot only do my students appreciate the print issues that arrive each week, but they also enjoy logging in online to further explore the issue's topic through short videos, quiz games focusing on their comprehension of the article, and the focus on specific vocabulary. I even have students asking if they can read Scholstic News during our independing reading time. This has all be possible through your donation to our project.\r\n\r\nThrough the Scholastic News subscription I am witnessing students reading grade-level nonfiction text with enthusiasm and focus. Each issue provides me with numerous opportunities to help students work on a variety of reading skills including identifying the authour's main idea, determining the meaning of stronger vocabulary words, and the incportation of nonfiction text features like charts, graphs, captions, and side bars all while learning about topics that are relatable to my third graders. These are invaluable skills when trying to build lifelong readers. Thank you for helping to provide opportunities for my students to achieve exactly that!","fullyFundedDate":1758730361951,"projectUrl":"project/notable-nonfiction/9714952/","projectTitle":"Notable Nonfiction","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robinson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6639964"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_94505","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":652,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":26,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":63,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.5,"schoolId":94505,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pearce Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pearce Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/guilford-county-schools/pearce-elementary-school/94505"}
