Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from diverse families and have overcome many adversities. Providing these students with all the resources that they deserve will help to motivate and engage them. I would like to create a classroom environment that is enriching and representative of who they are.

My students are resilient, strong, and courageous learners!

Our school is located is in a working-class community; many of my students face food and housing insecurity. As a first-year teacher, I am trying to cover as much ground as I can by providing my students with tools that are essential and appropriate for their growth.

My Project

With this project, I can provide students with a monthly picture book, each promoting a different character trait (respect, courage, grit, empathy, diligence, responsibility, friendship, fairness, citizenship, trustworthiness, honesty, and gratitude). We will discuss read and re-read these books each month - these books will help students with literacy and they will be conducting a close read. These books are also a great resource for social-emotional learning.

Our classroom's book boxes are on their last leg.

With this project, my students can have an accessible and leveled area to keep their books. This will help students easily pick books that are correct for them and encourage them to read more often.
