This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are so eager to learn and want nothing more than to do well in school. They come in every day with a smile and a good attitude. Many come from another country or are first-generation Americans. These children love hands-on activities, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to become better students. They come to school each day ready to try new things.

My goal is to make sure that all students, have all the tools they need to be successful and become life-long learners with a love for reading.

Our wonderful school is in a high poverty area of Chicago. Despite their obstacles, my students come in my classroom ready to learn and do their best every day. We are a high achieving, level one school.

My Project

As a huge fan of Betty White and animals, I decided to write this project in honor of Betty. The late actor was known for her advocacy for animal causes and spent much of her time raising money for animal shelters and animal rights organizations.

We received a great book vending machine through our DonorsChoose grant last school year.

This year we are using that machine as a behavior incentive for students to earn books to take home to keep. Each month every adult on campus has the opportunity to gift a gold coin to a student that has been working extra hard in their class. We are vending around 50 books a month for our kids who are working so hard to be amazing. As such, it is time to refill our vending machine, again. This project is mostly for books about animals. Our book vending machine incentive is how we are going to get books into the hands of our students to reward their hard work and good behavior.

With this project our students will not only be earning books to take home for being an outstanding student but they will also be learning about animals that were near and dear to Betty's heart.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
