My Students

I work in the library in a rural school area, working with students from 9th-12th grade. When COVID hit, students did not have a chance to bring back books they had checked out.

Our students are working hard to keep the reading culture we have here, but I need to update and replace books that COVID has taken from us.

We worked hard to get books back, but lost close to 100 books due to school soft closure. We lost many of the first or second books in a series and many of our brand new graphic novels I had just started to bring into the library.

We have had a large influx of second language students in the last couple of years as well; I need books for them too. We offer reading challenges that stimulate all types of reading and have many students who love competing in the challenges.

We offer audio books, called Play Aways that allow our low level readers as well as our sports students a way to listen to books and complete book reports. We lost many of these as well, and I do not have funds to replace them.

My Project

These books will address several populations in our school that are currently lacking a variety of books. These books will replace books that were lost due to COVID and allow all students to read at their level and with genres they are interested in.

Our international students love graphic novels are they are learning English, but my lower level readers love them too.

Our Spanish section is almost non-existent and we desperately need to add to it for our new students. Books in verse allows all students to do book reports.
