This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am the librarian at a Title I school. My students are wonderful, sweet children who love to learn and love reading. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but most are from low-income homes. Many of my students do not have any reading materials in their home other than the library books they bring home from school. As you can imagine, the current pandemic has prevented many students from having reading materials to enjoy during this pandemic. Although many took books home from the school library before the school was closed, that was over six weeks ago, and I know they are in need of a new material. In addition, many of our students are without internet service, and therefore, they cannot read ebooks.
Funding this project will help provide my students with paperback books to read during this pandemic.
Books are an essential item for a child's education, and I would love to be able to provide my students with new books for them to enjoy during this difficult situation.
My Project
My students are in desperate need of new reading materials. Many did not bring any books home with them to read when the schools abruptly closed, and those who did bring books home are in need of new materials. These paperback books will be gifted to students who do not have reading materials in their homes. These books will be used to supplement remote learning and foster a love of reading.
Reading is an essential skill that our students need in order to succeed in school and out of school.
Books play a vital role in the success of our students, and this project will help prevent the dreaded summer slide that happens to many students in low-income areas. These books are especially important now since it will be many more months until students are allowed back in school to use our library.
