This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are active, energetic, and love being read to. They enjoy being able to make connections between literature and hands-on projects in class. My students come from diverse linguistic, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Approximately 50% of my students qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch.
I've always strived to create an active learning environment, which promotes a love of reading.
Our library is filled with engaging books, that make connections to real-world experiences, the school curriculum, and much more. Although I've been able to create a great collection, it's time we add even more diversity to reflect our ever-changing population, and the world around us.
My Project
Books open up our world in a magical way. These books will help my students to see themselves and others around them. They will help to teach the value of diversity, while also teaching about our commonalities. The books will make for wonderful read alouds that we'll be able to enjoy many, many times, and for years to come.
Each book provides a unique lens on our physically, culturally, and linguistically diverse world.
These books will allow many of my students to see themselves reflected on the page, while also teaching them more about those around them. We live in a very diverse community, and it is important to be able to represent that in our classroom library. We will enjoy these books as a class, and students will also have opportunities to read them with their peers, or independently in our class library.
