My students need books for our lessons and classroom library, as well as individual storage boxes to keep their weekly vocabulary words in a safe place for future use.
I am a second-grade teacher. I have a wonderful group of students! They are constantly impressing me with their hard-working attitude, amazing work ethic, and overall positive outlook on life. I am so proud to be their teacher. They deserve the best education possible.
I teach at a rural, Title I school, serving approximately 300 students.
Every child receives free breakfast and lunch. We are located near a large military base and as a result, serve children of active duty and retired military. Our students are bright and eager to learn new things. They are hard workers and strive to make their world a better place.
My Project
This project is very special to us for many reasons. The first reason is that it would give my kids access to more books to use throughout the school year. These books are great choices on both 2nd and 3rd grade reading levels. I know my students would also appreciate that the books cover a wide variety of topics, subject areas, interests, and lexile levels. These items could be utilized in: small group and whole group lessons, and for the children's own personal use in our classroom library. All of us in the classroom enjoy a wide variety of books, especially ones that have Science and Social Studies themes to them. I know my students especially love Science, so all the books with scientific topics will certainly be loved and read MANY times!!
This project has an important item that will serve a dual purpose: the individual storage boxes to keep their vocabulary cards in a safe place.
Each year, the students love learning new vocabulary words! I want to encourage them to not only continue to use their weekly vocabulary words each week, but I want them to save them for future grades. My plan is for each child to have a storage box, and they can store their weekly vocabulary cards on index cards in the box. The cards can have the term on one side, and the definition and sentence example on the other side. Thank you for your time and consideration of my class. I personally feel that books will always be valuable- no matter how advanced technology gets. I will be able to teach so many different literacy standards with these books. I'm so excited at even just the thought of adding to our class library!
